Content Objective: I can write a book review and reflect on what I have learned in relation to my goals this year. 
Language Objective: I will write or record a review of the book I read this quarter and write a letter to myself reviewing what I have learned in relation to my goals this year. 

Agenda: 
1. Write or use the Webcam setting in Screencastify to record a review of the book you read this quarter. Written book reviews should be one page in length. Recorded book reviews should not exceed 5 minutes. 
Please include the following in your review: 
  • a short summary of the book
  • Why did you choose to read this book? 
  • What were your expectations for this book before you started reading? 
  • How complex were the characters? 
  • How did the characters develop? 
  • What did you think of the dialogue used? 
  • How complex and intriguing was the plot? 
  • What were your favorite/least favorite parts (include quotes if you can)?
  • How did/didn't the book hold up to your expectations? 
  • Who would you recommend this book to? 
  • Rate your book between 1 (I didn't like it), 2 (it was okay), 3 (I liked it), 4 (I really liked it), and 5 (it was amazing!)

Language Objective: I will edit and revise my flash fiction to include my characters' goals, motivations, and conflict as well as significant details. 


Agenda: 
1. Read your Quarter 4 Book for 20 minutes. 

2. Reading Journal: What does the main character in your novel want? How are they trying to achieve this? What happens if they don't succeed? Is the conflict in your novel an effective one? Does it keep you interested? 

3. Before you go back to your story, answer the following questions: 
  • Goals: What does your character want?
  • Motivation: What happens if your character does not get what they want? 
  • Conflict: What prevents your character from getting what they want? 


4. Read through your story.  Are all three questions (goals, motivation, and conflict) answered in your story?
If not, find a way to add them in!
RUN SPELL CHECK!
CHECK CAPITALIZATION AND APOSTROPHES! 


5.  3 Steps to Significant Details
  1. Highlight the three most important details in your story.
  2. What is the explicit significance of these details? What’s their implicit significance?
  3. Describe your significant details as vividly as possible. Try to use your 5 senses to come up with unique descriptions that aren’t cliche. 


6. Share your story with two partners. 
Add comments using GoogleDocs on these three questions:
  • What is something you really liked?
  • What confused you?
What do you want to see more of?

Language Objective: I will write and revise a rough draft of a 300-word flash fiction story using my outline and vocabulary prompts. I will provide feedback to my peers. 

Agenda: 
1. Bell Work: Read your chosen Quarter 4 Books for 15 minutes. 


2. Reading Journal: Free write. Write about  anything that stands out to you in your reading for 5 minutes. Be sure to include textual evidence. 


3. Daily Dose of Grammar: 
Choose the best sentence:
  1. They like to visit Pat’s and my house.
  2. They like to visit Pat’s and me house.
  3. They like to visit my and Pat’s house.
  4. They like to visit me and Pat’s house. 


4. You have 15 minutes to finish writing the rough draft of your flash fiction. 
Remember to include at least two of the following vocabulary prompts: 
  • arrival 
  • journey
  • aptitude
  • rite of passage
  • identity
  • transcendence
  • ideology
  • symbol
  • metaphor
  • circuit

5. Now, condense your word count to make sure you can fit everything into 300 words: 
First, go through and delete all unnecessary adverbs and adjectives. 
Then, make sure you are not talking about anything that does not directly pertain to your story. 
  • Does your story still make sense? 
  • Does your story have explicit as well as implicit meaning? 
If your answer is "Yes" to both of these, proceed to step 6: 

6. Share your work with a partner. Use GoogleDrive to provide feedback to each other. Make sure your feedback answers the following questions: 
  • What is something you really liked? 
  • What confused you? 
  • What do you want to see more of? 


7. Use your partner's feedback to revise your story. 

8. Exit Ticket: What is the explicit and implicit meaning of your flash fiction story? 
Has it changed since you have outlined your story? How?
