Content Objective: I will definite key ideas and apply them to places around the school.
Language Objective: I will participate in a group photo challenge and take photos as well as come up with definitions and justifications of places that reflect key terms of this class.

Agenda:

 Nominate three peers with good listening/talking skills for HOPE Squad

Photo Challenge

Day 1: Take photos and create your slides (we will finish slides and present next period.)

Note: If you are missing class, you can make up this assignment by taking your own photos and creating your own Google Slides. All other rules still apply. 

Day 2: Slides

Choose your top 10 photos.

You will be adding two slides for each of your photos.
  • First Slide: Prompt and Picture (make sure your pictures are as large as possible)
  • Second Slide: Title it with whatever word is bolded in the prompt you have chosen.
    • Write down your group's definition of the bolded word.
    • For each group member, give a reason why you chose the place you chose.

Assignment: 
Upload your Slides with your photos etc. to Canvas

Content Objective: I will identify key elements about myself and write about my name and how it contributes to my origin story. 
Language Objective: I will write a vignette essay about my name. 

1. Write for five minutes about each of the following questions: 
  • Who does society tell you to be? (Think of anything people told you to do/not to do, stereotypes etc.)
  • Who are you really?
  • Who do you want to be? (Not just "when you grow up" but in life)

2. Read Sara Cisneros' "My Name"

3. Discuss the following questions in your group:
  • How does the main character feel about her name?
  • What does she know about the origin of her name?
  • How is this important to her?
  • Why does she want to rename herself?
  • Make one connection between yourself, the world or another text and the text you just read.

4. For 20 minutes, write your own vignette about your name. Be sure to write about all parts of your name and in as much detail as possible.

5. Share your writing in your group and add a connection to each of your group member's pieces.

6. Name Bingo

Content Objective: I will identify key elements about myself and write about my name and how it contributes to my origin story. 
Language Objective: I will write about my name and begin writing my introduction.

Agenda:

1. Find your name tag. For this next part, use the four corners of the front of your name tag: 
  1. (Top Right) Hobby or Interest that you are currently into
  2. (Top Left) Movie or Book that has had an impact on your life
  3. (Bottom Right) Class or Teacher who has changed the way you think
  4. (Bottom Left) The way I learn best is through______________ (write the word/s to the blank only) 

2. Categories: As a group, come up with a category.
Example: Pokemon 

Within that category list ten different types 
Example: Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur, Charmander, Wartortle, Pikachu, etc. 

Each group will share their category
You will be assigned a type within that category
You will meet your new group

3. Inside the name tag:
On the first panel of your name tag, write one thing you learned or know about your name.

Why is this important or not important to you?

4. On the second panel, write down what you hope your name will mean when people say it 60 years from now. 

5. On the third panel, write what your name represents to yourself and others. 

6. In your Google Drive, create a new document ant title it My Name and today's date. Insert photos of the front of your name tag, the back with the categories, and the inside panels. 

7. Below your photos, write about the following questions:
  • Who does society tell you to be? (Think of anything people told you to do/not to do, stereotypes etc.)
  • Who are you really?
  • Who do you want to be? (Not just "when you grow up" but in life)

Assignments: 
Submit your Google Doc containing the following: 
  • Photos of your name tag (front, back, inside)
  • Answers to the questions under #7

Language Objective: I will create a name tag that includes part of my origin story, discuss and vote on policies, and complete a disclosure quiz.

Agenda:
1. Name tags: Name + Personalize

2. ChromeBook Assignments and Sign-in
Note: You MUST use your @granitesd.org account
Follow these instructions.

2. Link your Google Account to Canvas. 

3. English 12 Disclosure + Kahoot

4. Policies: Cast your vote

5. In your Google Drive, create a new folder; title it English 12.
Inside of this folder, create 4 folders and title them:
  • Daily Participation
  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar
  • Essays and Projects

6. In your Daily Participation folder, create a new Doc, title it "My Introduction" and today's date. Then answer the following questions:
  1. Who do people tell you to be? (Think about expectations others have for you, pressures you are under, stereotypes and prejudices others might have about you.)
  2. Who are you really? (Genuinely write about who you really are.)
  3. Who do you want to be? (Be specific. Who you want to be is more than what kind of career you want to pursue.)

Assignments:
