Content Objective: Students will be able to use iPads and iMovie to film satirical news segments.

Language Objective: Students will act out and film satirical news segments.

Agenda:
1.) iPad and iMovie training by Ms. Wyness
If you missed today, here is a basic tutorial for iMovie: iMovie Tutorial

2.) Go over Satirical News Video Rubric: There should be 2-3 people in your group. Choose something that you think "must go" and figure out a way to show (with evidence!) why this is a problem and what your proposed solution is. Remember that your solution has to make sense and that you will have to make up "fake" evidence about why your solution is going to work and why you are experts in this area. Finally, make sure your video is well edited (you can splice in images, text, music etc. if you want to) and that you are using at least one example of irony, sarcasm, hyperbole, and understatement in your video. (Check your vocab if you forgot what these mean!)
Your video should be at least 3 minutes long.

3.) Start filming your satirical news segments.

Due Date: You will have the entire next period to finish filming and editing your video. We will view and critique videos on Tuesday, November 26 (A-Day) and Monday, December 2 (B-Day).

Assignments:
Make sure you get all of your filming and editing done during class - be here to help your group out!

Content Objective(s): Students will be able to identify and apply sensory details in their own writing.
Students will be able to apply the elements of satire in their own writing.

Language Objective(s): Students will rewrite the opening paragraph of their "Favorite Mistake" essays using at least one example of sensory detail.
Students will compile lists of "Things That Must Go" and write their own satirical news segments.

Agenda:
1.) Bell Work: Read for 15 minutes. After reading, find at least two examples of sensory details (language that paints a vivid picture of the events, characters or setting) in your reading.
2.) Rewrite the beginning of your Favorite Mistake essay in a way to engage your readers. Get right to the action, use active sentences and at least one example of sensory detail.
3.) List 10 Things That Must Go, meaning things that you just cannot stand (maybe things people are doing, certain trends, politics, things that are happening in school...)
4.) Find a partner and compare your lists of Things That Must Go. From your lists, choose one example to script a satirical news segment on.
You will use this script to make a video using the iPads in the Media Center for the rest of the week. See the rubric for this assignment here.
Once you have picked one Thing that Must Go, find a satirical way to show:
  1. Why this is a problem
  2. How you propose to solve this problem (remember that satire means you are bringing a problem to its logical conclusion, logic should be evident in your proposed solution.)
  3. Your evidence for why your solution will solve this problem and why or how you are experts in this problem area (come up with fake facts, make yourselves the fake "experts" in the area you are talking about)

Ms. Wyness will train you on using iPads and iMovie to make an edit videos during next period. Make sure to be there during production this week (you have two days to produce and edit your video. It is due Friday, November 22 (A-Day) / Monday, November 25 (B-Day). As a member of a group or partnership you need to make sure to do your part of the work and have fun with this project!

Assignments:
Turn in Bell Work (examples of sensory details)
Rewrite first paragraph of your "Favorite Mistake" essay
Script or outline what you and your partner (or group of three) are going to do for your satire video: What's your problem/proposed solution/evidence? What other things are you going to incorporate in your video?
