Language Objective: I will make inferences about characters in The Canterbury Tales.
Agenda:
1.) Bell Work: Read The Book Thief for 15 minutes. After reading, answer the following questions:
- Summarize the main idea of your reading in one complete sentence.
- List two details that stood out to you in your reading. Cite textual evidence and use complete sentences.
- Make a connection. Compare how something in the text similar to something in your own experience or something you read or watched.
- Contrast how something in the text is different than something in your own experience or something you read or watched.
- List two questions that you had while reading. Make sure they are not answered in the text.
3.) Review: making an inference means you are making an educated guess based on text you are given.
4.) With your group (or individually, if you missed class), complete the characterization chart on your two assigned pilgrims.
Note: You are only required to fill out the chart on the two characters you and your group has been assigned.
To do this, first read the "Things to Know" background sheet on your two assigned pilgrims to help you understand more about the position and background of these characters. THEN read the corresponding sections (page numbers are on your "Things to Know" sheet in the Holt: Elements of Literature textbook. You will have to stop by F-207 to be able to do this.
5.) Remember to read each line carefully. You will have to make several inferences to be able to complete your characterization chart. Re-read and cite textual evidence for each character trait. Make sure your inferences are based on textual evidence. You will need to check off the completed characterization chart with Ms. Floch for the project we will start next period.
Assignments:
- Bell Work: Book Thief Questions
