Title today's Google Doc "Story Ideas" and today's date.
1. For 10 minutes, browse one of the following news outlets (read whatever section interests you):
- The New York Times
- The Washington Post
- The Wall Street Journal
- Huffington Post
- The Salt Lake Tribune
- The Deseret News
After reading, list the following:
- 3 topics that caught your attention
- 2 new things you learned
- 1 way you noticed reporters capturing their audience's attention
Go through the slides below to learn about how to come up with story ideas and how to make sure they are specific and newsworthy:
To post, double click on the screen and add your name (or your group's names) in the title, then list your story ideas in the body of the post.
3. In your Google Doc for today, write two story proposals. Include in each:
- Six-Word Summary of your story
- Include the angle or focus of your story: What are you going to focus on? How is this focus new and/or different than what's already out there?
- Give two reasons why this story is newsworthy (check slides and defend why your story is newsworthy)
- List three primary sources (people you would interview in person) of authority who you are planning to interview.
- List two secondary sources you would consult (online sources, documents, news articles, etc.)
4. Which of these stories would you prefer to write and why? Justify your answer and talk about how your story is unique and not something that has already be done. Write 3-5 sentences.
